Ten SEO Tips to Get You Higher Yahoo and Google Listings by Peter Nisbet
SEO tips can help you to get higher Yahoo or Google listings, but only if you use them. Most people think that they know better, even so called SEO professionals who have to use PPC advertising to get their websites listed highly enough to be seen. Who are they to tell us what to do, when they cannot it themselves?
I have had some of them write to me criticizing my ‘crap’ HTML and also my ‘useless’ linking strategies. My site has ‘only a Page Rank of 3′. So what? It is sitting at between #1 on #5 on Google from day to day, at # 1 to #4 on Yahoo from day to day and at #1 on MSN. I will gladly accept their criticism of my HTML and linking when they achieve the same. Till then, perhaps they would be better buying my book that complaining about my websites!
I would feel more predisposed to them if they stopped criticizing me - I only started to do the same to them when I got sick of their comments when they could not emulate my results. Who am I, a rank amateur, to beat them in the SEO stakes!! In fact, I have been at this for many years.
So, SEO tip #1 - don’t believe anything you are told unless those telling you it have at least one of their websites in the top 5 on all the major search engines for a competitive keyword. Mine has >800 million other results on Google.

Make Google love your WordPress blog - 7 tips
As you install your WordPress Blog keep in mind that there are things you can do to optimize for search engine indexing. WordPress right out of the box doesn’t include the plugins you will need or even the settings within the WordPress admin area that need to be tweaked. Here are some of the ways you can optimize your WordPress blog for SEO.
1. Using good headlines for your Title - Make sure your titles are thought out and make them compelling. They should also use the H2 tag so check your CSS file and make sure they are using H2 tag.
2. Permalink structure - Log in to WordPress admin area. Go to options then permalinks. Select Custum and enter %postname% in the field. Be sure to save changes before navigating to another page. This will change the url’s from http://www.domain.com/P?21 to something like http://www.domain.com/blog-optimization-tips
3. Related Posts - Use the related posts plugin. This will display a certain number of posts at the bottom of each post. You determine how many to select. This helps with your internal linking and get all of your posts indexed. This is a very important one to have. Additionally it will compel readers to stay longer and click on other posts you have written.
4. Inbound Links - Get incoming links to your site with as high of a pagerank as you possibly can. You can link from your social sites, bookmark sites, leave comments, buy links and so on to get high numbers of links coming in to your site. And if one of your stories get dugg on digg you will get an enormous amount of link backs.
5. Title Tage - Make sure your post title appears before the site name in the title tag. You can do this by recoding the title tag in your header page or using Optimized title plug in.
6. Sitemap - Use the Sitemap creator plug in and submit it to Google.
7. 404 redirect - Redirect your 404 pages to your home page.

What is social bookmarking?
Social bookmarking is a hot topic at the moment, but what exactly is it? Well social bookmarking is where the internet is categorised by humans. Normal search engines send out robots to search the internet and split it up into categories, these robots do an ok job, but they’re not human.
Social bookmarking is where humans (not machines pretending to be humans) actually search the internet and share a list of their favourite sites with others using services like Squidoo, Google Bookmarks, Yahoo My Web, and many others.

Parsing Keywords for SEO
As you probably know by now, keyword research is the key, pun intended, to getting rankings that produce traffic for your site. That being said, not all keywords carry the same value.</p> <p>Just to make sure we are on the same page, let’s run through keyword research real quickly. Keyword research is simply the task of identifying what your prospects are typing into search engines to find things within your niche. You can sites such as Wordtracker to do this.</p> <p>Most sites make a major mistake when doing keyword research. The take the correct initial step of developing a large list of keyword phrases. The problem is they then fail to parse their keywords. Instead, they simply prioritize based on the total traffic produced by a phrase or by how easy it will be to get ranked for a particular phrase.</p> <p>If you want to make hay through search engine optimization, you need to parse the keyword phrases you find in your research. What does parse mean? It means you need to categorize the phrases by the likelihood someone using them will actually buy. Let’s take a closer look.</p> <p>The first category to be parsed is the browser phrases. Who, why, articles, information…all these words are indicative of a person that is looking for something within your niche, but probably is not red hot to break out the credit card and make a purchase. These people are just browsing, which means these phrases should get a low priority in our seo efforts. Yes, people coming to your site through rankings for them might buy later, but then again they may not.</p> <p>The second category to be parsed are people with problems. These phrases tend to have words such as how in them. A person searching for”>The third category to be parsed is the ready to buy phrases. Words to look for include buy, purchase, cheap and so on. Basically, you are looking for a “give it to me now, dammit” type of theme. For example, a person searching for “buy a repair kit for leaky faucet” is someone ready to pay you money. Your conversion rate on such traffic should be tremendous assuming you are offering a reasonably priced solution. As you can guess, these keywords should be the first that we focus on when optimizing the pages of our site.
Keyword research is obviously critical to your success in seo. That being said, take the time to exam your keyword list and emphasize the phrases that are going to lead to sales. Your goal is to maximize sales, not necessarily traffic.
